We're Getting Married!

ABOUT US

Ashley

Javier and I first met freshman year of high school in Spanish class . We rarely spoke, yet sat directly across from each other all year long. Throughout high school, we would exchange "hellos" in the hall, but never anything more. I was always intrigued by Javier, but our groups or paths never quite crossed.

Javier

I thought Ashley was really cute, but what really sealed the deal was when I saw her perform "Ma, He's Making Eyes at Me" for Showstoppers at Cy-Fair High School. Oddly though, we did not interact much in high-school, just exchanging glances during class and saying hello in the hallways.

Fast Forward To Modern Days...

The magic of the internet can connect people regardless of time and distance. In 2006, Ashley and Javier reconnected during the beginning of the social networking craze. At that time, Ashley was going to school in Baton Rouge at LSU, and Javier was in Houston, attending the University of Houston. Ashley was minoring in Spanish and was working on a paper she had to write. Javier kindly offered to edit her attempt at written Spanish. They started chatting and emailing to get to know each other. After about 2-3 months of getting to know each other, they decided it was time for a date.

Their first date was the weekend after Easter in 2006. Ashley was really disappointed about not being able to spend Easter with her family the weekend before, and decided to travel home for a belated celebration. The two of them scheduled a luncheon date for that Saturday. When Javier picked Ashley up, he surprised her with an Easter basket (since she had missed out on that tradition). They spent their first date visiting bookstores and ate Vietnamese food (a first for Ashley). After a wonderful first date, Javier dropped Ashley off at home, not knowing when they would get a chance to see each other again. Ashley was headed back to Baton Rouge the next day.

As time went on, Ashley and Javier knew they had to see each other again (and again!), so traveling back and forth from Houston to Baton Rouge (and vice versa) was what they did for a year and a half. After Ashley's graduation from LSU, she made the decision to move back to Houston for good while attending graduate school to obtain her Master's Degree in Social Work. Javier had graduated from the University of Houston in 2007 and was working on making the internet awesome.

Javier traveled through three different states on a quest for Ashley's hand in marriage. Now the couple spends their time drinking good tea, singing songs to each other, and other fun stuff.
